Chris has been a drummer
for 15 years, but it may never have happened at all, if he had not been
persuaded by a friend to buy a drum kit.
Ever since he can
remember, Chris has considered himself someone with a good sense of
rhythm - as a youngster he was forever banging out riffs on worktops,
tables and anything that seemed to lend itself to being percussive!
During his school years he
tried his hand at playing
the Trombone and also the keyboard - but quite frankly he was crap at
both!
Years later Chris became
best friends with a professional keyboards player, who spotted his
rhythmical potential and persuaded him go out and buy a drum kit.
Chris took to it like a duck to water and not looked back since!
The first band that Chris got involved
with was a 4-piece rock covers band called 'Mad as a Fish', with 3 guys
from the Charsfield area mainly playing pub gigs (although they did
manage a gig at Ipswich Town Football Club). After a spell in this
band he decided that he needed a change to try his hand at other musical
genres - and the opportunity arose to join 'The Alibi Club', a 4-piece
rhythm and blues band.
It was through this band
that Chris met Bass Player Martin Hicks, who was eventually to lure him
into becoming drummer for a Pop and Jazz covers band called 'Skin the
FIsh', who Chris still performs with regularly to this day.
Eventually Chris left The
Alibi Club, to conecentrate on his new band but, unbeknown to him, his
good friend Jeremy Gugenheim (former Bass Player with Mad as a Fish) was
to meet up with an ex. professional Guitarist called Daniel Wherrett at
a mutual friend's Barbeque and much musical discussion evolved into
'fancy meeting up for a jam session' and guess who got asked to bring
their drums along?!! The result - a 3-piece rock and blues band
called 'The Verdict' - which was great fun and provided some great gigs
and a wonderful studio recording.
Sadly the band came to an
end in 2007, but Daniel and Chris continue together in the fabulous
'Boulevard Blonde'!
Chris's musical
influences are John Bonham(Led
Zeppelin), Ginger Baker,
Chester Thompson, Phil Collins and the Cadburys Gorilla!
